6559 LEE @ FREDERICKSBURG/JACKSON @ WINCHESTER

The traditional military stein styling serves as the criterion for this stein. The South's two most famous generals are showcased side by side on this stein by a pair of Mort Künstler's original paintings. The titles of the original paintings aswell as a reproduction of MortKünstler's signature are permanently fired near the base of the stein. A "Lithophane" (see-through) picture of General Jackson appears in the stein's base and is revealed when one holds the stein to the light and looks through it. The heavy cast and antiqued ornamental pewter lid is decorated with embossed stars, cannon balls, swords, and "US" and "CS" symbols. A pewter artillery cannon figurine is mounted on the lid. This is a limited edition of only 2,000 pieces. Each stein is registered and individually numbered. The painting for this stein is the same as item #4274: "Lee at Fredericksburg" takes place on Princess Anne Street at 9:40 a.m. on November 20, 1862. On his horse, "Traveller", General Robert E. Lee, along with General James Longstreet, ride down Princess Anne Street in Fredericksburg with their entourages. Fredericksburg became on one of the most fought-over cities during the Civil War. "General 'Stonewall' Jackson Enters Winchester, Virginia" on May 25, 1862, after stubborn resistance from the forces of Union General Nathaniel Banks. This painting depicts the first time Winchester had been liberated from a long and harsh period of Union control and the Confederates were welcomed as conquering heroes.
